| Trans-Atlantic flights Before you close the front door behind you, use this mantra, “passport, plastic, ticket.” If you have those three you can get out of almost any situation.
(Plastic = credit cards.)
Take with you a photocopy of the "photo page" of your passport, your ESTA registration number and details (coded) of your credit card numbers: do not pack them in a check-in bag (you’d be amazed how many people do). Do not carry all your credit cards in the same bag or wallet - so they can’t all be stolen together.
Get a US Visa card (ExportAction can help you) for all your US travel, accommodation, subsistence and other expenses. It will make currency conversion and claiming expenses so much easier - for you and your accountant.
If you know your travel plans well in advance check http://www.cheapflights.co.uk and use it as a benchmark for flight prices.
