| Exporting goods to the USA. |
|
| Import duties Goods entering the US are subject to duty unless specifically exempted by law. A good's dutiable value is determined according to its classification. Classification and valuation of the goods is the responsibility of the importer. The U.S. Customs Service will then determine the relevant duty. Goods cannot leave the port of entry until the duty has been determined, after which importers have 90 days in which to appeal.
Depending on the product, a permit, license or additional documentation may be required from other agencies such as Food & Drug Administration (FDA) U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), or Department of Agriculture.
If you export to the USA, you may need to study the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), a list of product codes linked to duty rates for specific products.
