| Mexico The North American country of Mexico is made up of thirty-one states and one Federal District in which the country’s capital, Mexico City, is located. Its population totals 112,322,757, and its official language is Spanish. Some ethnic groups in Mexico, however, speak indigenous Amerindian languages, which are recognized as national languages by the Mexican government.
Mexico’s GDP in 2010 was $1.567 trillion with a GDP per capita of $13,900, compared with the United States’ GDP of 14.66 trillion and GDP per capita of $47,200. Mexico’s main imports are metalworking machines, steel mill products, agricultural machinery, electrical equipment, car parts for assembly, repair parts for motor vehicles, aircraft, and aircraft parts; its main exports are manufactured goods, oil and oil products, silver, fruits, vegetables, coffee, and cotton.
Mexico trades primarily with the US, China, Japan, South Korea, and Germany (in that order), and its trade agreements include but are not limited to NAFTA, Mexico-EU Free Trade Agreement, Mexico-Israel Free Trade Agreement, Mexico-EFTA Free Trade Agreement, and Mexico-Japan Free Trade Agreement. Mexico’s top ten largest companies in descending order are: Serfin Grupo Financiero, PEMEX (Petroleos Mexicanos), CEMEX (Cementos Mexicanos), Banacci ex-Banamex-Accival, TelMex (Telefonos de Mexico), Carso Grupo, Cifra Grupo, BBVA Bancomer, FEMSA, and ALFA SA de CV.
